Introduction
There are many health problems and disorders that human are exposed to. However, for
most people, they do not know that sleeping disorder could be the most critical disorder to
human beings. Sleeping disorders mainly involve challenges with timing, amount and quality of
sleep which results in problems with stressing and functioning during day time. There are
several types of sleeping disorders but the most common one is insomnia while the others
include obstructive sleep, restless leg syndrome, and narcolepsy. As mentioned earlier, the
majority of people do not even know that they are suffering from sleeping disorders as these
sleeping disorders can be obstructive hence one cannot easily know about them. Sleeping
disorder can result in critical complications due to the effects that it causes on person
psychology. Hypertension is one of the health effects that are attributed by sleeping disorders,
but it is important to note that this disorder affects both children and adult and who their
behavior end up being altered.
The health impacts of sleeping disorders
For a long time, the majority of health problems have been linked to sleep disorders.
Sleep disturbances issues such as inability to get to sleeping and also early awakening are highly
linked to depression and anxiety. Sleeping disorders can also be linked to obesity, which implies
that the shorter the sleep the higher the chances of becoming obese. Actually, lack of sufficient
sleep in adolescence and children is common for the groups of people with lower social
economic status.

day as the mind is not fully relaxed. Additionally, some people are unable to control their moods
as they become so moody such that they cannot relate with other people well. The results of
such behavior are devastating to the family and the community at a large (Health, 2016). Lack of
adequate sleep can result in low concentration which consequently leads to low productivity. In a
family of an instance if the breadwinner suffers from the sleep disorder the entire family will be
affected as the person whom they were depending on is longer productive to cater and provide
for their needs. The effects are going to be felt by the entire community due to low productivity
and performance as well.
The causes of sleeping disorders
According to (Hungin& Close 210: para, 2), one the approaches of sleeping disorders
considered two major causes of sleeping disorders. Firstly, it was identified that sleep disrupted
breathing inclusive of obstructive sleep apnea and the second cause identified was the disruption
of a person sleep. This signifies that sleeping disorders can either be due to individual breathing
problems, personal problems and stress or even being disrupted by other people. In addition to
that, other contributing factors for lack of sleep as Ming et al, (2011) argues include medical
conditions, lifestyle, psychological issue, and environmental aspects. Therefore, a sleep disorder
can either be due to external sources or even the inherent elements.

Sleep disorders causing poor concentration
According to Hungin& Close (2010: para, 2), the effects of inadequate sleep have also
been linked to impaired performance and poor concentration in the day time. A healthy adult is
supposed to sleep for seven hours at a minimum however most people sleep for less than six
hours. The most affected group of people are managers and drivers who spend most of their time
on work to the extent that they do not give themselves a break to rest. However, during the day
it is possible to see some of workmates and managers lacking focus, becoming irritable, lacking
motivation and in other cases, they also make bad decisions due to lack of enough concentration
at work. As a result, the consequence of this poor concentration is a poor performance where
produces a poor result.
Sleeping disorders causing accidents
The research that was conducted by Mehra (2016) proved that the impacts of sleeping disorders
can lead to high chances of drowsy driving which is associated with motor vehicles among
others which can increase mortality threats. A person with sleeping disorders their health
problems can be risky to the general public as the person does not have maximum concentration.
In other cases, due to poor sleeping at night, the driver might find himself sleeping while driving
and in the process lose control of the vehicle resulting in accidents that are really fatal.
Sleep disorders causing physical health problems
Physical health is important to every individual however if one does not take time to
exercise they are likely to become exposed to other health problems. However, when a person
starts having lethargy they are likely to be suffering from poor sleep which is accompanied by
physical problems such as palpitations and heartburn. This finding aligns with other studies

established by other authors that quality of sleep is also associated with the physical health of a
person. Additionally, a decreased immune function is likely to make one susceptible to typical
illness which can turn one away from being their office and possibly damaging once career.
People suffering from sleeping disorders
The research study that was conducted Walia & Mehra, (2016: para 2) showed that
approximately 50-70 million American adults are suffering from one or more sleeping disorders.
The authors also argue that there almost eight diverse forms of sleeping disorders. The most
shocking thing is that the majority of the adult who is suffering from sleep disorder do not
actually know that they have this kind of disorder.
Factors which make it difficult to detect sleeping disorders
There are various contributing factors which make it difficult to identify that one is
actually suffering from sleeping disorders. Some of the key factors include failure to recognize
the importance of sleep problems among patients and also clinicians lack of awareness
concerning the management and evaluation of sleeping problems. This clearly indicates that
both clinicians and patients do not have knowledge of sleeping disorders. Besides, some of the
clinicians lack assessment knowledge of the sleeping disorder which would, in turn, be beneficial
in identifying whether one is suffering from the sleeping disorder.
The varying effects of sleep disorder
Although most people understand the importance of proper sleeping habits, the study
conducted by (Medics, Willie& Hemels, 2017: para 2) argues that almost 70 million people
within the United States and 45 million in Europe suffer from a chronic sleep disorder. Sleep

disorder ends up causing critical effects of individual health and normal functioning as well. As
such, it is evident that sleep is something which is very important to an individual life thus
deprivation of the sleep can even affect an individual performance of daily activities including
own health (Hamed et al, 2015).
Stages of sleep
The first stage is the NREM sleep which is defined by slow movements of the eyes,
where this stage can be disrupted easily by causing arousals or awakenings. The second stage
which is known as the NREM sleeps arousals or awakenings do not easily occur. The third stage
is the deep NREM sleep which is the restorative stage of sleep consisting of slow waves or delta
waves. The next stage is the REM sleep which is referred to the rapid eye movement also known
as the dreaming stage where the movements of the eye are rapid.
Counter Argument
Sleeping disorder is not the most critical disorder that humans have to deal with. There
are also physical disorders and disabilities which people are exposed to and have diverse impacts
on their social life with other people. Albinism is one of those disorders that do not only make
the victims have low self-esteem but also makes them become inactive members of the
community (Kerson, 2015). Albinism is beyond the human control as it is inherently obtained
and one does not choose to be one like the sleeping disorder. Albinism is a rare genetic disorder
which causes the eyes, hair or skin to have little or no color. This disorder is also linked with
vision problems hence most of the people with this disorder have to put on sunglasses.

This discussion has comprehensively established that sleeping disorder is one of the
most critical disorders that can affect normal human life. Although there are different types of
sleeping disorders the effects are most similar however it is not true to argue that sleeping
disorder is the most critical disorder. There are also other disorders which human beings are
exposed to these includes skin disorder and albinism among others. However, sleeping disorders
is a unique disorder since it attacks human at that exact moment that they need to sleep. The
sleeping disorder impacts human health, causes low concentration during the day, leads to poor
performance and also has a significant impact on the physical health of an individual.
