Safety and Security Response Measures In A Pool
Assignments engaged in
• Inspecting the swimming pool (PH – Chlorine – Temperature level) we joined
daily site inspections around the sites focusing on swimming pool activities and MEP
and maintenance team monitoring
• Making an incident report – we have been involved in an incident reporting
process where there was an accident in the generator room. After visiting the accident
site location, we completed an incident reporting form and shared it with concerned
parties
• Making an investigation report – after investigating with the witnesses, taking
pictures, witness statements. We were able to complete an investigation report
containing all the causes and the root causes of the accident.
• Reviewing emergency response plan – We have learnt that each site has a site
specific emergency response plan that contains all the emergency contact list,
emergency exits, emergency response team, and the hierarchy of the team. We were
able to review site emergency plan and update it.
• We practiced a fire drill – We were engaged in a fire drill practice in the office site
and compound club house building, we have joined as observers and took notes of the
whole procedure and at the end we were able to share our observations with the team.
• Visiting the security control room. – we were able to learn how the security
system work, how the security cameras operate how to zoom in zoom out and record
videos using CCTV cameras, how important this system is for the site location security.
We have also seen how the fire panel works, alarm system, how to check the activated
alarms.
• Learnt how to assess the risks, risk factors, and control measures through
different activities.
• Learnt how to make an independent, activity specific and site specific Risk
assessment.
• Learnt how to read the method of statement and scope of work and built a risk
assessment according to that
• Review and read readymade risk assessment and amend them according to the
site specification and job alteration

Solution
Safety and Security Response Measures
Engagements During Training
Every day, the pool is inspected and some daily routines carried out like adding Chlorine,
monitoring the pH, and temperature levels. It is a difficult task to prevent accidents and after
each accident, reports are conducted to identify the main cause of the accident. We took time in
visiting the generator room where an accident had occurred and we were involved in the report
writing process and handed the report to the management for further review. In case of accidents,
various places have different emergency response teams that use different protocols to deal with
emergency cases. Fire cases are forms of emergency accidents that happen occasionally;
therefore, we took a fire response drill in a clubhouse building where those who were observing
took down notes of what was happening and we also shared our experiences with them.
Maintaining security is one of the main activities in both public and private premises therefore
we visited the security control room to learn how the CCTV works by zooming and recording
videos.
Training Benefits
The swimming pool monitoring team including lifesavers trained us on the importance of
monitoring the state of the pool to prevent health hazards. The review involves carrying out an
investigation that studies the main cause of the accident and if witnesses are involved, they give
their statements regarding what they observed during the occurrence of the accident. Photos of
the accident site are also used for investigation as they give detailed information about the
aftermath of the accident and they can also be used as sources of identifying the cause of the
accident. Emergency exits, contacts, response teams, are the main essentials of dealing with an

emergency and through this; we can review the kind of emergency in context. During this drill,
we learned that 3 minutes is the maximum time for evacuation in case of fire emergencies. The
security is also extended to monitoring the alarms if they are activated and we learned that in
UAE, the information in the control is private.
