Week 10 Homework Assignment

1. Do you think that college instructor-student friendships on social networking Web sites are
appropriate? Why or why not?
2. You are 30 minutes into a job interview for your dream job—one where your college education and
experience could really be applied. So far everything is going well. Then, the interviewer asks you to
write down your Facebook user name and password so she can do further research after the formal
interview is over. What would you do?
3. A coworker who is a recruiter told you that she is going to drop a job candidate because she feels
that he is totally irresponsible. She found out through research on Facebook that the candidate
married and divorced his high school sweetheart before graduating from college and once had his
car repossessed. What would you say to your coworker about this?
4. You have just received a second invitation to join John’s friend list. You met John three weeks ago at
a group study session prior to last semester’s Calculus II finals. He came across as very quiet and sort
of strange. You did nothing to encourage his attention, but now you keep running into him at the
oddest places and strangest times—at the self-service car wash, the 24-hour gym at 1:00 a.m., and
the bakery at 7:00 a.m. He always flashes you a smile but has nothing to say. You think you’ve
caught him taking snapshots of you a couple of times with his cell phone. He is starting to creep you
out. What would you do?

Note: You must have a minimum of 150 words for every question, and references used.

Solution

Question 1
The teacher role as expected by noble society is to provide leadership and directions to the
students and impacting knowledge to the highest degree of integrity in them. A teacher-student
relationship should be respectful and formal, but inviting. According to Vladlena (2014), social
media present a better platform for communication in the 21st century and therefore should be
used in the right manner. The proper use of this social media has led to a creation of high output
in technology development of new software and program. Though social networking network,
college instructors can channel jobs opportunities and assignment to their students. This not only
creates a sign of friendship between the teacher and student, but it also develops trust between
the two. In addition, a teacher may have a substantial positive influence on the students lives as
the teacher can guide them on how to handle not only school related problems, but also problems
that are emanating from external factors. This is because aside from talking to parents, students
need an adult figure to guide them through other issues of life.
Question 2
Ethical behavior and professional integrity are vital for personal trustworthiness and success in
the current business world. Personal integrity implies that one can operate in a professional
manner within the workplace irrespective of the situation one is facing. The primary motive of an
interview is to get the most suitable and qualified candidate for the intended position. Some
questions asked during interviews specifically measures, emotional reaction thus identifying the
real person's traits. In this case, although giving out my account and passwords would
compromise my privacy and freedom of expression as brought out by Barnett (2012), on the
other hand, failure to cooperate with the interviewer challenges my honesty, trustworthy and

integrity which are essential traits that employers look for while hiring. Therefore, In order to
prove my trustworthiness and integrity, I would personally give my Face book details to the
interviewer as this act will create a lot of confidence to the employer towards me thus increasing
my chances of being hired.
Question 3
Professional ethic and personal ethics have always conflicted in many instances, for example, a
judge according to the law of the land my sentence a wrongdoer a capital punishment that is
against her personal ethics for not killing. Occasionally people have solved this dilemma by
drawing a line that distinguished personal and professional standards. It is essential to note that
personal values are governed by the interactions of these basic principles and value between
individual. Only values with positive impact should be used to guide people social or business
behavior, the negative ones should not be considered (Machicote, 2011). In this case, I would
advise my co-worker not to disqualify the candidate on information she gathered from Facebook.
Maybe there were issues then that transpired to termination of their relationship, and since
marriages are personal matters, she should observe profession ethics. As long as the candidate
does not compromise the status and picture of the company, she should consider her for the
position.
Question 4
According to Machicote (2011), friends are every important in a person's social
development, as they enable one to increase his self-esteem and confidence in solving day-to-day
responsibilities. New friends imply a positive development of a person in the society. A good

other party. He should give appropriate compliments that encourage the other party, thus
maintaining a positive attitude. It is obvious that John has an interest in me. Having met him in a
calculus class, and the fact that I did nothing to encourage his attention clearly shows that he has
interest in me. The two-invitation requests prove that he is determined to have our friendship
grow, and I cannot afford to let him down. Nevertheless, I should take measures to ensure my
safety by ensuring I have a company of a friend I trust during odd hours and places. Also, I will
make sure that I avoid going to the gym at 1:00 AM since at this moment I am vulnerable of an
attack from him if he has a negative agenda especially since he appeared to me as sort of strange
during our first encounter. In this regard, Even though am willing to be friends with him, it is my
responsibility to exercise due caution during our friendship.
