Introduction
Globalization is a diverse concept since it covers different aspects that combine to make
the world a village; the economic aspect of globalization, the religious aspect of globalization,
the social aspect of globalization and other cultural domain of the society. According to
Dasgupta, (2004), he claims that the process of globalization involves the integration of people,
nations/governments or companies and their interaction in various activities that relate majorly to
business or religion or culture. The process of globalization is majorly facilitated by the new and
evolving technology in form of information technology through social media platforms such as
Facebook, twitter, WhatsApp and other forms of communication between people in the world.
The foundation for globalization is international trade and free-trade where companies from
different countries are able to exchange capital, goods and services freely across different
nations. This paper will focus its discussions on globalization process in the Muslim world,
which is particularly the Arab world. The major lines of discussion will be in the matters of
tourism international finance, politics, economics and their relationship with globalizationin the
Arab World(Witt, 2007). Besides that, the paper will also discuss some of the issues that arise in
the study of multiculturalism in the current world.
Globalization in the Arab World
In the current world, the world is like a small village where people from all parts of the
world are able to interact with each other very easily. There are numerous avenues that allow
people to explore the world in few minutes or hours either through news, availability of means of
transport that are very affordable to almost everyone since they are many in number, such as
airplanes. Apart from just touring the world, people have the chance of touring even space with

GLOBALIZATION3
the technology of aircrafts and other innovations. Globalization has led to tourism, which is an
aspect of touring the world more easily and freely than before. Most Arab countries such as the
Middle East and other North African regions of the world have good places and excellent coast
lines where people are able to relax and enjoy the cool weather of the coast regions and beaches.
Based on international politics, the Arab world can be considered a hot bed of political
fluid in that there have been many intense interactions in the political field with cases of political
wars and terrorist attacks. Besides that, the terrorist attacks have culminated to the rest of the
world whether you find that people from the Arab world are diversifying their terrorist attacks to
other countries of the world such as Paris, the United States and various African countries. Other
than conflicts and negative outcomes from the Arab World in relation to the political aspect of
globalization, there have been positive political interactions as well, where most of the Arab
Nations have created a partnership with other nations such as the United states and with this
alliance, United States has helped some of the Arab nations to maintain peace in their countries
by launching peace initiatives and peace unions and providing with United States army to help
fight the terrorist groups. El-Said & Harrigan, (2006) further adds that globalization has
transformed the economic levels of the Arab Worlds, particular in the areas of finances. As
mentioned earlier, the process of globalization involves free interactions between nations in
terms of trade and thus for Arab countries, since they are rich in oil, they have been able to
supply the oil across all the nations in the world. Clearly, with a ready market, any kind of
business will prosper and develop, similarly, since the whole world needs oil as a source of
energy to propel machines and ensure cars move, this situation has made tremendous changes to
almost all the Arab Countries by facilitation the economic development of the region.

GLOBALIZATION4
The Arab World is a region of majorly the Muslim religion, but with globalization, things
have been changing in these regions since they are able to embrace other religions and allow
Christians to interact and do business in their regions and be able to worship in the best way they
know (Beckford, 2003). This means that globalization has transformed the people from the Arab
World and has led them to think in a diverse manner. It is true that the West countries have
mixed themselves with corruption and immorality and that was the major reason that led to most
Arab Nations to uphold what they believe in, which is mostly moral and fair but since
globalization came with competition, for a nation to survive, then it must create an
interdependence kind of a relationship with each other. This relationship brought about changes
in the Arab World majorly cultural like with an introduction of other languages such as English
that are used by the Western world (Zughoul, 2003). Besides that, for a country to compete in the
international market, then they must be the best and they must have mass production of their
commodities, and thus, due to these reasons, it prompted the Arab Nations to create an oil union
so that they can have more control in the international market and in the world at large. Up until
this moment, the OPEC controls the supply of oil in the world and with such power; they can be
able to make their currency strong and dominant in the world market.
Multiculturalism and the major issue relating to it in the world
Multiculturalism refers to the presence of many cultures among people, which is the
situation in the world. The idea of having many cultures means that the world is full of
diversities from all angles, be it religion, tribal, race, ethnicity etc. These clearly means that
there is so much diversity in the world, which has been caused by globalization as people are
now able to interact more freely and easily in the world. Diversity in the world is a good thing
but there are also other negative aspects that can be caused by diversity and multiculturalism.

GLOBALIZATION5
Most studies have come up with various challenges that are brought about by the interaction of
people with different cultures and beliefs. Following a report written by the United Nations
alliance of Civilization (2009), they have identified a major challenge with multiculturalism as
political conflict. This is because, the recognition of diversity among people and the advocacy
that exists in the current world, it has raised awareness of the differences that exists and this has
led to conflicts due to personal interest and a want of feeling equal with other people. With
increasing globalization, multiculturalism has been louder than before as all groups of people are
fighting to have a space in the world.
Politics is a major aspect in the world since through it; nations are able to elect their
leaders who will represent the interests of their countries in the world. Besides that, politics has
major links with the business world and thus considering the issues of multiculturalism, it can be
noted that in the past, there were no major issues with multiculturalism and people lived in
harmony with each other since people had not discovered the differences that exist between
them. This is because, power was only for the strong and rich people in society and globalization
did not exist. The poor and other minority groups had embraced with arrangements and thus
conflicts never came up. With globalization, people have been spoken and are now informed that
everyone is unique and has equal rights like any other individual in the world. Knowledge of the
existence of differences has made people to fight for their rights and fro a position in the world.
When it comes to electing political leaders, people tend to choose not a particular leader due to
their leadership skills but for in order to protect their personal interests by voting for a person
who is similar to them culturally and one who speaks the same language as they do. This culture
has affected many countries of the world and most especially African countries thatare
multicultural in nature. There have been many tribal wars and clashes in almost all the African

GLOBALIZATION6
countries, some of these wars go for more than 2 years even after elections are done. Ultimately,
having conflicts and clashes in African countries affects the whole economic world since
business activities are halted down while there are many countries of the world that depend on
the products and commodities produced in these countries. Therefore, in order to solve the issues
of political conflict causeby multiculturalism, there is need for businesses to negotiate and come
up with ways that can lead to peace and misunderstanding. This is because, the only major
relationship that exists between nations of the world have their basis on business and thus using
the same basis, peace and collaboration of different multicultural groups for the whole good of
the whole economic world (Härtel, 2004).
