Solutions to Global Water Shortages
Water is an essential condition for the existence of life. Sadly, reports given by Agencies like NASA points out that the world is running on the brink of the water shortage. NASA reports that some of the giant lakes are disappearing and the world is heading to the future where countries could be water insecure (Doraiswamy & Thompson, 1982, n.p). With this regard, this report outlines some of the solutions that could be taken to overcome water shortage situation globally.
To attain this goal, then people across the world must be educated on the water consumption techniques and the lifestyles they should adapt with the aim of preserving water. Since some regions like Australia are already experiencing the water crisis, then the only better way is to make sure that the other people not yet affected understand the problems they will experience if they do not take precautions as soon as possible (Ehrlich & Ehrlich, 1991, n.p).
The World Water Day panellists urged a new way to cope with problem and they gave an idea where waste water should be recycled and be treated. This fact is actually implemented in the rich East Asian republic which is leading in developing advanced technology which cleanses waste water for all uses even for drinking. Accelerating population growth is seen as one of the major reason for water shortage. With this effect, countries should educate their people on the population growth techniques to reduce the population.
The industries should minimize their use of water since they account for approximately 22% of global water consumption, which is a large percentage. Other factors which should be kept into consideration include; addressing water pollution issue, holistically managing our ecosystem, developing and enacting better policies and regulations concerning water, improving water catchment and harvesting, developing energy efficient desalination plants among other factors.
