From Saudi Arabia to Canada: Embracing Multiculturalism and Live Performance

I come from a Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) where you only watch a movie from a television. There is nothing like theatres and live performances. In Canada, the theater industry is well established and there are a number of theaters all over the country (Wilmer, 2009). I came to Canada to majorly pursue my education.

However, today I have become a professional live performer because I had promised myself that I would make sure that I learn something different during my stay in Canada. Additionally, I was impressed by the diversity of the Canadian culture, which has a lot of influence from the British, then French, the Aboriginals and the American culture.

Canada is a multicultural country and this makes it a country where anyone from any part of the world would be comfortable to live in. In addition to having people from different cultures, Canada also, has very many international students. At first, I had a hard time trying to interact with these people.

Multiculturalism - Funderstanding

Through the class programs, I had an opportunity of making several friends as well as knowing more about their way of life. The school organized various co curriculum activities like games and hence I was able to share most of the multicultural ways of doing things. Although we came from different countries, we shared a lot in terms of culture and religion. I was hence in a position of understanding how things are done in various countries.

Being efficient in using English language which many of these multinational students had, interaction was much simple and effective. From this learning, I will try to take the cultural practices that I think will suit my people. I will therefore try to teach my people on the new ways of doing things. These multicultural practices are different from my home country where everyone follows a specific religion and tied on the same cultural values. My home country does not allow some of the things done in Canada. Their way of worship and the way family duties are allocated is completely different from my home.

Studying in Canada has enabled me to learn live performance, something that is not in my country of origin. It has also enabled me to learn different languages. This has placed me in a position where I can be able to deal with people from different countries. It changed my way of thinking and now I am more sensitive while dealing with people from different countries.
