HEINEKEN INTERNATIONAL
Heineken is Dutch brewing company that was founded in 1864 and is ranked among the top ten booze companies, it is well known for its well implemented whistle blowing policy that contributes to favorable working space for its workforce. The whistle blowing policy ensures that the concerns raised are well investigated and the necessary actions taken after the ruling.
Whistle-blowing Policy in Heineken International
Whistle blowing is a term used to refer to the reporting by the workers of suspected misdemeanors or any illegal act in the workplace, the aim of the whistle blowing policy in Heineken International is to encourage the employees and others within the company to air their serious concerns without fear, the whistle blowing policy has several principles that is based on (Miceli.et al, 2009).
First that the company will act on any malpractice within the company, a toll free number is placed in service to enable whistle blowers report any suspicious malpractice in their own language. The whistle blowers are promised protection, anonymity and confidentiality after they report any wrongdoing activity in the company, Heineken International also penalizes false allegations (Beauchamp.et al, 2004)
Whistle Blowing Procedure
One, any serious misconduct or infringement of the code of conduct is first reported to the responsible manager and if, for any reason the whistle blower chooses to be anonymous, he/she gets a ‘report key’ that enables him/her to call back again or log in and check the position of the investigations. The responsible integrity team then looks into the issue where afterwards, the Executive Board will give its ruling.
Heineken International whistle blowing policy has the best whistle blowing principles; the policy has a well, self-explanatory statement that the organization takes reported malpractices seriously, the statements explains too well what the organization regards as a malpractice. The company whistle-blowing principles also respect the confidentiality of the whistle blower, hence giving the stuff the freedom to raise and air their concerns without fear (Beauchamp.et al, 2004).
Heineken international also creates awareness and educates its staff how to raise and air their concerns outside the organization. The organization ensures that it instills confidence in its employees by providing a system that ensures investigate and acts on the malpractice rose other than acting against the whistleblower (Perry, 2015).
Heineken International has put in place an easily accessible whistle blowing channel that saves time and insures confidentiality and that the whistle blower remains anonymous if he/she wishes too. This reduces the probability of being bullied or distanced by other employees who might be against the concern raised (Perry, 2015).
How Heineken International can Improve Whistle Blowing
The organization needs to ensure that whistle blowers are well protected and provide well easy to use channels to air their concerns; the company should carry out a research on the perception of its employees on the policy of whistle blowing in the company (Parl.et al, 2014). It should thereafter improve on the concerns raised by its employees through the research.
Heineken International should also improve on the time taken to investigate a raised malpractice and issue its judgment as soon as possible to ensure no time is wasted through conducting investigations (Park.et al, 2014). The company should also put strict punishment for the malpractices that are found to be true in order to discourage such actions in future, for example a serious malpractice should be with demotion or expulsion from one’s position, these strict punishments will ensure that every employee is transparent at his/her work place.
Conclusion
Every employee should feel free to let his/her concerns known on the malpractices that happen at the workplace, a company should put to place a whistle blowing policy that enables an employee and other individuals in the organizations table their concerns without fear. A company that values the concerns of its employees and act upon them benefits more than a company that discourages whistle blowing of its workforce.
