Introduction

In the history of documentation, there are heartfelt heroic actions once done by
individuals who risked their lives for the sake of saving others. The heroes face life risking
combats but through feats of courage and ingenuity, they overcome the challenge where some
lose their lives and some survive. Unfortunately, some of the heroic actions go untold in the
public and the actions end up in vain only to remain in the hearts of the casualties and the
incident associated individuals. Heroes certainly deserve appreciation and recognition as the
simplest honor since it takes an extra portion of humanity to deliver such services.

Introduction and outline of the topic

Long ago, there were roles and responsibilities that were regarded to be associated with
men or women. Men often joined military and went to wars whereas women were left at home to
take care of the households and never to join army since it was not their responsibilities. As the
years passed by, the idea became barbaric and women stared to be involved in other duties like
teaching, leading and in medical professions (Waits, 2016). In 2015, the department of veteran
affairs, there were 2,035,213 women veterans who should be honored and acknowledged for the
wide range of service they offered to their nations. This paper is written to under look the
concept of the term hero in warfare, remembrance and military masculinity.

Gender theory

Gender theory was introduced in the academy back in 1970s and 1980s and it was well
conceptualized in the US and the Great Britain and partially in the European continent.
According to Robinson and Richardson (2015), essentially, the gender theory was proposed to
evaluate masculinity and femininity which are the two sets of mutually created features forming
the basis of the lives of men and women. The theory came against the ideas of femininity and

masculinity as it operated in the history in accordance to fixed biological elements. Henceforth,
embedding the use of these categories from the realm of biology, individuals have transformed
the approaches of the term men and women since there are no more specific roles set for either
men or women, therefore, no gender is limited.

Analysis of the topic using the theory explanation.

Heroic women also termed as virago who once demonstrated the aspects of courage and
belligerence should be appreciated and recognized because of the diverse ways they touched
lives. They set good examples to current and future generations that no woman should be
confined in the cocoons of the terms female, women should be included in the armed groups
(loken, 2019). Gender theory unlocks the positive idea of how we should regard women when it
comes to duties and responsibilities since not even disabled woman should be denied access and
chances to deliver what she is capable of delivering. Besides, women should serve even in the
armies, drivers, and clinical careers and also in prominent leadership positions.

Analysis of the topic using the theory

The topic revolving the gender theory to demonstrate the capability of women will refer
to a heroine who served in the military and deserves everyone’s salute. General Ann E.
Dunwoody served in the army to be rewarded with a rank of 4 star, she was the very first woman
to serve in this capacity. Ann signed up as a soldier in 1974 where she was initially assigned
226 th Maintenance Company as a forward direct support associating with 100 th supply and
services Battalion. When Ann became a soldier, women were allowed to serve as women’s army
corps which was not comparable but since then, the situation changed. Ann is the best soldier
known for revolutionizing the Army Material Command (AMC) as the commander in the supply
team as a leader. Ann Dunwoody retired in 2012 but left behind a legacy that will never be

forgotten. She implemented effective strategies that greatly enhanced the efficiency and
effectiveness of the AMC. Rossi (2018) decided that women should neither be judged with their
cultural description neither be limited to serve in different professions. Women are regarded as
guardians, creators and consumers of culture.
Conclusion

In conclusion, a heroine is one who takes an extra step thus risking her life for the greater
good of others. Mostly, what is good for others, will yield different opinions into opposing
camps. Both heroes and heroines deserve more than just a thank you to instill the spirit of
endurance and diligence in the hearts of other hopeful young men and women. According to the
gender theory, no woman or man is limited, everyone should be given equal chances to show the
world what they are capable of. Every person should be allowed to work in different professions
as long as they are capable of delivering as expected to improve the way of life. Moreover,
regarding individuals with their biological characteristics is just a mere reasoning which seems to
be barbaric. Just like Ann Dunwoody, every woman young or old, should not be denied any
chance of exploring what is regarded as impossible.
